At Fabtech in Chicago, Schuler Inc. and Bliss, Clearing, Niagara (BCN) Technical Services will make a joint appearance. Starting on Monday, November 9, both companies present their solutions for advanced metal forming technologies at an 800 square feet area (booth number S4149) – ranging from hydroforming, hot stamping and the extremely dynamic ServoDirect Technology for faster throughput and more efficient processes all the way to press automation.
“Schuler and BCN make ideal partners”, Paul Nicholson and Ron Fukui – the companies’ managers – both say. Located in Canton, Michigan, Schuler Inc. represents the technological and global market leader in metal and plastic forming equipment, the Schuler Group, in North America. The company has many years of experience in turnkey hydroforming and press lines for the automakers and their suppliers. Schuler’s expertise also includes the electromotor, packaging, minting and household appliance industries.
Bliss, Clearing, Niagara (BCN) Technical Services is based in Hastings, Michigan, and offers parts, repair, remanufacture, rebuilding and retrofitting of all brands of equipment and presses. More than 9,000 different machines are served yearly. Additionally, BCN has more than 12,000 stocked part numbers to provide on-site repairs, field services, troubleshooting and press relocations for its customers. BCN, a US corporation, was acquired by Müller Weingarten AG in 2006, which was acquired by the Schuler Group in 2007.
With PCHflex, Schuler will show at Fabtech a new generation in hot stamping which allows economical production with high output performance and high part quality – combined with maximum process reliability and availability. By controlling pressure during hardening, the necessary press force can be distributed evenly over the part. The flexible bed cushion ensures – within the part and distributed over several parts – a uniformly high contact pressure, resulting in faster cooling.
Schuler’s further development of the “Pressure Controlled Hardening” technology also has the benefit that existing conventional press hardening dies can be used on these lines. And conversely, dies designed for PCHflex technology can be used on conventional lines. A renowned US car manufacturer has placed an order with Schuler for four production lines to manufacture lightweight parts using PCHflex technology. In addition, options have been agreed for four further lines.
Schuler Inc. also offers engineering, sales and service for hydroforming lines and tools as well as high volume manufacturing of hydroformed parts. In this way the company supports North American customers in the design and development of hydroformed parts and in the design of hydroforming manufacturing lines and tools. Capabilities also include manufacturing and try-out of the dies developed for hydroforming. Another area of competency is its own hydroforming facility for volume production: Schuler’s automated production line in Canton produces 600,000 hydroformed components per year.
Schuler’s engineering team managed to advance the use of high strength steels which deliver lightweight tubular shapes for vehicle structures. The end results are auto designs that can bring consumers more fuel efficient cars with better impact and crash performance. In addition, Schuler’s hydroforming process commoditizes hydroformed components, making the process more cost effective than ever before. Global standardization of the component and die design delivers flexibility to produce consistent body-in-white parts by tier hydroformers in any region.
By its own account, the Fabtech is North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event. The show from November 9 to 12, 2015 in McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, is expected to cover more than 550,000 net square feet and anticipates over 40,000 attendees and 1,500 exhibiting companies.
