Schuler not only offers new presses, but also the modernization of existing lines. In fact, the company recently received an order from a major German car manufacturer to retrofit two press lines from 1998. With a value of approximately € 18 million, it is the biggest service contract Schuler has ever been awarded.

“Our expertise in conducting such large-scale projects was a compelling argument for the customer,” says Holger Garbrecht, Head of the Technology Field Service. The two Compact Crossbar press lines at two different locations of the car manufacturer in southern Germany will each receive a new electric transfer system. The service team will also be overhauling the blankloaders and draw cushions, modernizing the electrical and mechanical elements and adapting the electric control system.

The retrofit of the first press line will begin at the end of the year and is due to be completed by mid 2014 – then it’s the second line’s turn. “The retrofit will not only raise the productivity of both lines considerably, but also improve their energy efficiency,” explains Holger Garbrecht. The press lines are used to produce car body and structural parts for mid-range and premium models.
