Hot-stamping has been proven in real-life conditions
Description
A good representation is use of six fully-automated Schuler hot-stamping lines by a German automaker for the manufacture of safety-related components.
Following heating in a continous-roller furnace, the components are formed in 800-metric-ton hydraulic presses. Hardening of the components then takes place by means of controlled cooling in a water-cooled die. During the cooling process, the press remains closed at bottom dead center at a pre-selected force, producing an appropriate material contact and keeping the cooling time as short as possible. Robots with specialized tooling perform the transport of the hot components.
