Making new from old: Updating of a 3-roller bending machine from the year 1972

Bending machine at Herbert Machine Tool Builders
Schuler recently completed rebuilding/modernization of a 3-roller bending machine (vintage 1972) at the Herbert Machine Tool Company in the German state of Hesse. The machine was originally built by the Wilhelm Schäfer Machine Tool Company, a member of the Schuler Group since 1994.
Modernization included new rollers, worm gearing for the upper roller adjustment – consisting of worm gears, shaft and feed mechanism – as well as assembly performed by Schuler specialists on site. The addition of the new rollers ensured the highest quality for the blanks being processed. In addition, the new gearing enhanced the performance of the old bending machine and also enabled the line to process heavier gauges of blanks. Schuler Hydroforming offers not only comprehensive service to its customers in the field of hydroforming but also spare/replacement parts and assembly for the processing of sheet metal and tubing. This includes both 3 and 4-roller bending machines as well as edge trimming machines, which in some cases date from the 1960s.
