Press hardening

Light-weight volume production –
Systems for press hardening

Higher strength with reduced weight: Press hardening is a promising alternative for automobile manufacturing with its emphasis on light-weight.  In this technology components are preciptation hardened by heat treatment, forming and a controlled cool-down.  In this process steels with a starting tensile strength of 500 to 700 N/mm2 (71,000 to 99,400 psi) reach tensile strengths of 1300 to 1600 N/mm2 (184,600 to 227,200 psi).

Press Hardening Tech Center

The establlishment of the Press Hardening Tech Center at the Waghäusel facility in early 2007 laid the foundation for development of the new generation of form hardening lines – the PCH lines.  The advanced version of Press hardening combines advanced press technologies with innovative automation and furnace solutions to form a fully automated line for the manufacture of ultra-high-strength safety and structural parts.
The integration of other downstream operations such as, for example, sand blasting and trimming serves to lower costs for handling and logistics and is another significant part of the total PCH concept.  Companies facing strong competition profit over the long run with a press hardening line from Schuler and these companies are also ready today to meet the requirements of tomorrow.
