Hot stamping, also called ''press hardening'', is a process gaining popularity for its applications processing high-strength, light-weight components for today's automotive market. Schuler's hot forming lines are producing safety-related parts for leading automakers around the world.
Hot stamping is using a process of heating, forming and then controlled cooling.Components are quenched (hardened) in the die during the ''press hardening'' phase.
Using the press hardening process, steels with initial tensile strength in the range of 71,000-99,000 psi (500 to 700 N/mm2) achieve final tensile strengths of 184,600 to 227,200 psi (1,300 to 1,600 N/mm2) These systems provide Schuler's automotive customers with a competitive edge in the international market.
